Wave Montega is a Jamaican-Canadian rapper and songwriter, raised in Toronto’s west-end neighborhood, Malton. He has managed to become a staple lyricist in the city. With a background in poetry, it isn’t a surprise that Wave has been able to master melodies as well as bringing cathartic lyrics alive through genres such as drill, grime, melodic hiphop and r&b.
Wave began his rap career while on a scholarship studying in the United States. Initially being skeptical about a music career, childhood friends encouraged him to utilize his talents by uploading songs to Soundcloud without his knowledge in 2019. After much positive reception, Wave Montega’s hit song “Side Bag” produced by Toronto staple Godflow followed shortly. This song became a fan favorite garnering over 400 thousand streams. This lead to Wave’s debut mixtape “Still Wavy.” Well received by fans across the world, this project managed to gross over 470 thousand streams. Notable editorial playlist such as Northern Bars, Release Radar Canada, New Music Friday Canada, and the New Toronto Official Apple Music Playlist organically promoted many different songs on the project. and more, Wave was given the opportunity to open for international artist Ramriddlz as well as host other shows at smaller venues around the Toronto area.
As Wave Montega gears up for his sophomore release, he hopes to expand his fanbase to the UK market where he can leave an imprint as he has done throughout Toronto.
